LED vs HPS Grow Lights Showdown: “Hydroponic Tomato Grow-Off” in the SuperCloset Deluxe Grow Boxes

SuperCloset Deluxe Hydroponics Tomato Grow-Off

SuperCloset Deluxe Hydroponics Tomato Grow-Off

SuperCloset has started Tomato Wars 2, LED vs HPS comparison, in two of its Deluxe grow boxes in the SuperCloset showroom growroom.   Tomato Wars 2 was started to answer the question, “Are LED Grow Lights better than HID Grow Lights?”  A 400W HPS lighting system is being used in one Deluxe hydroponic grow box and the 126X-PRO Penetrator LED light is in the other. Both grow lighting systems are set up in the Deluxe grow boxes with the same airflow, hydroponic nutrients, SuperPonics-16 hydroponic systems and the same type of Black Krim tomato plants.  Let the best light win!

HPS lights are the most utilized grow lights in indoor gardening growboxes because they enhance the fruiting and flowering process in plants, have a long usable bulb life and possess six-times more light output per watt than incandescent lights.   HPS bulbs emit an orange/red light, 2200K to be exact, which produces larger harvests of higher quality herbs, fruits and vegetables.  Because HPS bulbs increase usable end product, all SuperCloset grow boxes and grow rooms ship standard with HPS lighting systems including Lumatek ballasts and bulbs.

LED lights are Light Emitting Diode arrays that consume less electricity compared to other grow lights and less heat.  Because of these features, LED lights can be placed closer to the plants’ canopy than HID lights.  They are a great alternative for indoor growers that have a problem controlling their indoor air temps.   LED lights ship as upgrades to the Deluxe hydroponic grow box systems.

The SuperCloset Deluxe hydroponic grow box system is the perfect venue for the HPS vs. LED hydroponic tomato grow-off.  It stands 72” tall, 36” wide and 24” deep encased in 16 gauge steel.  It is harbors the perfect environment of 76 degrees F and will allow the Black Krim tomato plants to reach up to 34” tall inside the growing chamber.  Since all Deluxe grow boxes are designed with adjustable lighting systems, the grow lights can be moved up and down according to plant height.  The plants in each grow box started out at 5” tall as they were moved up from their SuperCloner grow chambers as clones.

The air gets pushed out of the filter rather than leaked into the air, so you don’t have to worry about your neighbors complaining about the smell!

The Problems with a Traditional Growroom

Nearly everyone is familiar with the concept of a traditional growroom, and very few actually see the flaws in the layout, unless they learn about our products. In a normal room, lights are in the ceiling and plants are on the floor, to mimic them growing toward the sunlight. The funny thing is, in a real garden, they don’t have any choice but to grow up toward the sun. This doesn’t mean that this is the only way that they can grow though.

Plants grow toward their light source; plain and simple. It does not matter if the source is above or beside them, they still receive what they need.

Why Our Growroom is Superior

By utilizing the theory that a plant will grow to a light regardless of location, we are able to create a growroom that is more efficient. When you position more lights in the right places and add shelves, you can utilize a lot more space to reap a bigger harvest.

Our vertical growth systems contain four shelved walls with net cups situated around a light column, which has been placed in a central location from the floor to the ceiling. This allows you to grow more robust and healthier plants that return larger blooms and greater yields.

Can you just imagine having fresh fruits and vegetables all year-round? How nice would it be to brag about using your own fresh herbs when guests comment on how delicious their meal was? The SuperCube is completely put together too. All you have to do is take it out of the box, plug it in and grow!

The Tomatoe vs. Tomato Grow Off in the Big Buddha Box Vertical Grow Room Begins

The Big Buddha Box is SuperCloset’s highest yielding hydroponic grow system and is the venue for the first ever Tomato Wars in the SuperCloset showroom.   Half of the Big Buddha Box is lined with Black Krim tomatoes cloned from Gemmy, a healthy female tomato plant.  The other half-side of the Big Buddha Box will be plants cloned from Gemma another healthy Black Krim female tomato plant.  The winner will be determined by which Mom produces the most tomatoes the quickest. Good luck to both Mom’s!

The Big Budda Box, the venue in this Grow-Off, is a vertically oriented hydroponics grow SuperCLoset Big Buddha Box Grow-room system in a house that contains 4 multi-shelved walls with  87- net cups nested within the tiered grow trays  situated around a centralized light column, which extends from floor to ceiling.  The effect of this amazing set up is four lush walls of flora all growing towards the center of the system.   Going vertical’s main benefit to the hydroponic indoor gardener is to quadruple their yields but only using half the electricity compared to a horizontal oriented hydroponics system.  Going vertical  is hands down the most sustainable indoor garden grow method.

Back to the Grow-Off and already both sides of the Big Buddha Box are performing better than expected.  Mainly because the Big Buddha Box’s SuperPonics reservoir system has been optimized for water distribution and flow. Superponics, put simply, is a synergy of hydroponics technology.  It is the technical term that combines all of the best hydroponics growing methods into one system that grows plants up to 2x-5x faster than traditional methods. Superponics systems fuse different combinations of Top Feed, Deep Water Culture, Ebb N’ Flow, Bubble, and Aeroponics all into one automated system allowing you to grow the fastest, easiest, and most you possibly can in your allotted space.  While everyone knows that plant roots need nutrients and water, average growers often neglect the most important element, the oxygen.  In order to reach their full potential and completely thrive, plants need the nutrient rich water to also be rich in oxygen.  The Big Buddha Box Superponics system utilizes two methods to achieve maximum oxygenation of the roots, Ebb n’ Flow and Bubble, Aeroponics.  The fully automated pumps slowly raise and lower the water level in each lateral tank, which ensures that the roots achieve equal quantities of oxygen throughout the day and the air stone diffusers create a “root jacuzi” for any remaining water in the tiered grow trays.

Each side of the Big Budda Box should produce excellent results.  We are looking to see world record cubic foot production out of Gemmy and Gemmaand the SuperCloset Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/SuperCloset-Inc/136001276431382 for updates on Tomato War I.

What to Look for When Shopping for a Hydroponics System

It is easy to hear about the many benefits that a hydroponics system can offer and immediately want to rush out and buy one. While the enthusiasm is great, if you don’t by one of high-quality or with the right features, you will find yourself very disappointed in your growing experience. That being said, since this is your first time shopping for one, you likely aren’t quite sure what to look for.

Look for these Qualities in Your Hydroponics System

Although there are a few manufacturers that you can buy your hydroponics system from, you need to look for the following qualities:

  • Accredited – If the company is not in good standings with the Better Business Bureau, you should run.
  • Warranty – The warranty on the unit should cover everything for at least two years.
  • Support – Is there going to be help on the other end of the phone when you need help several years from now?
  • Air-cooled Lights – If the system you look at has only 1,000 watt bulbs, this is a red flag.
  • Watering System – The right feed system will require less maintenance while being more efficient.

Here at Super Closet, we offer a three-year warranty, lifetime support and a state-of-the-art water culture feed system. It should also be noted that we are the only maker of Hydroponics Cabinets accredited by the Better Business Bureau!

SuperCloset Hydroponics Releases Their First Informational Product Titled “Super Grow Tips”

SuperCloset once again takes the guesswork out of growing by releasing its first informational product: Super Grow Tips.  The manual is a comprehensive grow guide that shows customers step by step how to grow easy and best in all SuperCloset turnkey hydro grow products.

Super Grow Tips begins with “The Basics”: Grow Lights, Grow Cycles, Temperature, Humidity, Air Flow and Water Quality and Nutrients.  If you have ever heard the phase, “You must walk before you can run”, it applies here.  Understanding the most important factors in indoor gardening is crucial in achieving results and eventually establishing oneself as a master grower.  Just like evaluating your plants from the roots up is proper protocol, starting from a good foundation in plant knowledge will lead to a successful indoor gardening pursuit.  Super Grow Tips starts small and grows big.

SuperGrow Tips then tackles the plant phases of growth starting with germination.  A full color picture sequence shows exactly how to give one’s precious seeds the best chance for survival in a growbox or growroom environment.  Transplanting is covered next and SuperGrow Tips shows exactly what a rooted clone should look like when transplanted into the flowering area.  Populated throughout the manual are Super Grow Tips. Here is an example of one: SuperGrow Tip: Its always advised to make sure your sprouts and saplings are completely rooted before subjecting them to the intensity of an HID light.  Rotating your Crop is the next topic covered and highlights one of the best advantages of owning a SuperCloset grow box; you can flower plants in one grow chamber and vegetate plants in a separate but connected chamber.  This perpetual rotational grow methodology enables an indoor grower to “always be flowering”.  To increase yields, plant management techniques like utilizing the net trellis, are discussed next in SuperGrow Tips.  Finally, nutrient deficiencies and excesses, pests and diseases are the final topic covered in the SuperGrow Tips manual.  This final topic is a spectacular reference guide for customers who experience any type of abnormality during their growing cycles.  Customers can compare what their plants look like to the pictures depicted in this section.

It is SuperCloset’s intention to not only sell the perfect grow boxes, grow cabinets and hydroponic systems in the world, but provide perfect grow knowledge as well.

Happy Growing!!

Understanding Hydroponic Systems

Hydroponic systems basically use a synergy of hydroponics technology, which is just a complex term for describing a method that can grow plants faster than traditional methods. Our systems use combinations of Deep Water Cultures, Top Feed, Bubble, Aeroponics and Ebb N’ Flow in one harmonic system that is completely automated. So, although it sounds complex, we have handled all the technical stuff, so you have to do minimal work to enjoy your bountiful harvests.

What Makes Hydroponic Systems Different?

If someone asked you what you need to grow your own vegetables, herbs or flowers, you would probably list nutrients and water, right? Well, what about oxygen? Everyone forgets that oxygen plays a significant role. Our hydroponic systems raise and lower water levels automatically in each tank so the roots are given equal amount of oxygen all day long. Then, we have added air diffusers that shoot out streams of bubbles towards the roots, which results in gorgeous healthy root clusters. While it sounds too good to be true, once you get your hands on one and see how wonderful your harvest is, you will understand why everyone who has one of our systems can stop talking about it!
